Abstract

The increase in incidents such as accidents and rape in Gurgaon are bringing in many changes in the city. These changes are effecting the environment socially as well as economically. According to the latest media report many laws are been broken by young individuals for underage drinking. This is one of the root causes for all the incidents. More than 100 young men and young ladies from rumoured schools over the city were found drinking and smoking hookah and cigarettes at a pub in DLF City Center Mall on Sunday. Police and extract office authorities assaulted a 'sex-and-smoke' themed birthday party - facilitated by one of the understudies - at the Buzz-in pub and parlor that was serving liquor to kids matured 14 to 18 years, all path underneath the lawful drinking age of 25. The police shut the pub down and captured its administrator. This was the second time the police have attacked a pub in Gurgaon and discovered minors drinking. On December 25, 2010, it had detected 80 understudies in a pub in Sahara Mall, which was along these lines fixed yet only for a couple of days. The pub holder escaped with a fine of Rs 80,000. With numerous pubs spotting Gurgaon's shopping center mile, rivalry is savage and checking for underage consumers a sorry need. Section 29 of Punjab Excise Act 1914 prohibits sale of liquor to persons under the age of 25 years and Section 62 of the Act provides penal provisions for violations. Pragya Kothari, a Development Economist said signage’s have dependably been placed up in all pubs and bars, clearly expressing that “liquor won't be served to those less than 25 years old yet these standards have been mocked frequently. This research would help to understand clearly and prove whether underage drinking is still happening in Gurgaon or not, are the individual breaking the law, are the shopkeepers selling alcohol or not to the underage, are they aware of the age restriction for consuming alcohol in Gurgaon or not.
