Abstract

Putrefactive changes are known to alter the appearance of injuries that may vanish with time due to disintegration of tissues, making its interpretation difficult for the autopsy surgeon. We report two cases of hanging where the ligature mark was well-preserved in spite of putrefactive changes in the bodies. Though similar cases are not uncommonly encountered in autopsy practice, the report is an attempt to discuss and highlight the various possibilities associated with delayed putrefaction in a ligature mark.
