Abstract

Aqueous extracts of seeds of Terminaliachebula (TCE) was used as an eco-friendly green inhibitor for the corrosion control of aluminium in 0.01M phosphoric acid medium. The study was done by potentiodynamic polarization technique using Tafel extrapolation technique and by A.C electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique at different temperatures and at different inhibitor concentrations. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for corrosion and inhibition process were calculated and discussed in detail. The percentage efficiency of the inhibitor obtained by the two methods was compared and reported. The result indicated that TCE is a good inhibitor. The efficiency of the inhibitor increased with increase in the inhibitor concentration and decreased with temperature. The adsorption of the TCE on the surface of the metal obeyed Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. TCE acted as anodic inhibitor in 0.01M phosphoric acid medium and followed physisorption on the surface of aluminium. Percentage efficiency of the inhibitor evaluated by both the methods was found to be in good agreement with one another
