Abstract
The Dynamic characteristics of water based lubricated journal bearings with multiple axial grooves are obtained theoretically. Theoretically there should have been a linear pressure drop from inlet to exit. The Reynolds equation is solved numerically by a finite difference method satisfying the boundary conditions. Dynamic characteristics are obtained in terms of stiffness and damping coefficients using first-order perturbation method to ascertain the stability of the system. In this paper a study has been made to obtain the dynamic characteristics for constant pressure in the grooves. As expected stability is slightly more when constant pressures are assumed in the grooves
