Abstract

The steady state characteristics of water-lubricated bearings with multiple axial grooves are obtained theoretically. The bearing is supplied with water from one end. In the clearance space of the bearing, water is subjected to both velocity and pressure induced flow. The Reynolds equation is solved numerically by a finite difference method satisfying the boundary conditions. The effects of groove angles on the static characteristics are studied. Typical results obtained are presented in the form of charts, which will be useful in the design of such bearings
