Abstract

The paper presents the results of model scale experiments for the study of the transmission characteristics of horizontal interlaced, multi-layer, moored floating pipe breakwater (HIMMFPB). The studies are conducted with breakwater models having three and five layers of pipes, W/L (W is width of breakwater) varying from 0.4 to 2.65, relative draft varying from 0.16 to 0.36 and relative spacing S/D = 3 (S is spacing of pipes and D is diameter of pipe). The transmitted wave height is measured and analyzed by plotting non-dimensional graphs depicting thevariation of Kt (transmission coefficient) with relative width, W/L for different values of relative draft, Df/d(Df is draft of breakwater and d is depth of water). It is observed that Kt decreases as W/L increases and it is also observedthat as Df/d increases Kt value decreases for the range of experimental values considered in the experiments.
