Abstract

The Hippocampus, a sea horse shaped structure which is located in the inner (medial) region of the temporal lobe, forms an pivotal part of the limbic system, which is particularly important in producing emotion, and associated to be in memory formation. Individuals who suffer damage to the hippocampus experience significant memory loss, or amnesia. The anatomic shape and central location of this structure poses a challenge for contouring and treatment planning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of hippocampal sparing WBRT using precise linear accelerator and Oncentra treatment planning system.
