Abstract
TIle present work deals with the soil-structure interaction effects on tall industrial chimneys under along-wind load. 3D FE model of the chinUley, raft and soil under self-weight and along wind load has been analyzed to estimate the contact pressure distribution and moment distribution of annular raft. The bending moments in the raft foundation obtained from the soil-structure interaction analysis from elastic continuum methods are compared with the conventional method. The analysis of results on the effect of supporting soil reveals a substantial decrease in the bending moments in the annular raft foundation.
