Abstract

Today, most Portland cements are substituted by supplementary cementitious materials (SCM’s) which are used to improve the performance and at the same time reducing environmental related effects such as production of greenhouse gases ( CO2, CH4 and NOx). SCM’s prove to be effective to meet most of the requirements of durable concrete. Fly ash, slag, silica fume, rice husk ash (RHA) are some of the SCM’s which improve both strength and durability of concrete. This paper presents the study and experimental observations comparing and contrasting results of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and blended cement using M40 mix concrete. Various types of tests were performed on the different grades of cement such as slump, compaction factor. Also, the compression strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength on hardened concrete was conducted. Other tests including sea water attack and sulphate attack on concrete was performed. The results were tabulated, graphed and concluded respectively.
