Abstract

Youth culture suggests leading an individualistic lifestyle. For being autonomous youth depend on the Internet for information. More than 65% of Indian population is below 35 years. In India the Internet subscriber base will be 150 million by the end of 2012. This study will explore the relationship between media and youth through Media System Dependency Theory which assumes that individuals are active in their selection and use of media content. The concept of Internet Connectedness Index (ICI) spins from media system dependency theory which assesses the overall relationship between person and the Internet. This study proposes to explore the ICI of youth between the age group of 18-24. It aims to provide insights into the scope and intensity of use and centrality of Internet in the youth. The findings will bridge the gap in understanding the connection between Internet and youth culture.
