Abstract

The pedicle screw insertion method has become one of the most preferred techniques for the spinal fixation over the past few years. This method uses 2D-3D registration which becomes complicated when it is to be made faster and accurate with least human involvement. In this paper, we describe a different approach to improve the speed of the Digitally Reconstructed Radiography (DRR) by using different wavelet filters. The comparison is made based on the compression capabilities of the two filters namely Haar and 5/3 filters. This is followed by the explanation about the thoracic vertebrae identification using template matching method which uses the Generalized Hough Transform (GHT).
