Embedded control of process plants is the state-of-the art development gaining importance by research community. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a versatile tool for implementing embedded controller. In this paper the process of interfacing the Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (STHE) with Compact Reconfigurable Input Output (CRIO) based FPGA through VDPID03DAQ card has been presented. The STHE VTPA-H-353 is a versatile and reliable computer based temperature process having microcontroller based data acquisition hardware unit. The DAQ card used for data acquisition consists of analog to digital converter, digital to analog converter and a microcontroller on a single board. A graphical program has been developed for the real time data acquisition using CRIO based FPGA. CRIO-9012 was interfaced with RS232 to the data acquisition card of STHE process plant. FPGA acts as a standalone processor instead of the PC for controlling the process plant.
