Abstract

The corrosion inhibition characteristic of biopolymer starch have been studied as an eco-friendly inhibitor for the corrosion control of 6061Aluminum─15%(v) SiC(P) composite material in 0.1M HCl solution. Electrochemical methods such as Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) techniques were adopted. Effect of inhibitor concentrations (100ppm -800ppm) was studied in temperature range of 30℃-50℃. The inhibition efficiency of inhibitor was increased with increase in concentration of inhibitor and with increase in temperature. The adsorption of starch on metal surface obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarization measurement showed that starch acted as mixed inhibitor and the inhibitor followed chemical adsorption on the surface of the metal. Surface morphology studies confirmed the adsorption of inhibitor on the surface of the metal. Results obtained by Potentiodynamic Polarization method and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopic methods were in good agreement with one another
