Abstract

Present study focused the wake interaction with the boundary layer. 2-D numerical study is performed to analyses the flow characteristic. Computational modeling and domain are initially validated with the unbounded flow over a circular cylinder without considering flat plate effect for a Reynolds number of 3900. To mimic the wake interaction with the developing boundary layer, the circular cylinder is placed over a flat plate for various gap ratios (0.25, 0.5 and 1.0). The Reynolds number is of 1440 for all the simulations. The effect of various turbulent models on the flow field development is reported in detail. It is observed that SST k-ɷ based model gives better predictions. It is also been observed that the wall effect is predominant in case of the gap ratio of 0.25
