Abstract

The research is focused on determining the difference in the print attributes when printed with the solvent based inks and the vegetable oil based inks on a single colour lithographic offset press, the print attributes such as the dot gain, print contrast and trapping are measured and evaluated in accordance to ISO 12647-2 which is a standard for offset printing. The results determine the performance of the two different inks on the press. The plate making process, printing process settings, conditions and the materials used in the whole process will be the same, so that the only the change in the ink performance is easily identified in the process. This project is purely a experimental research method. Reflection densitometers and Spectrophotometers are used to read the densitometric and colorometric values. The print attributes studied in this research determine that the Vegetable oil based inks are able to produce similar results to that of the Solvent based inks. Visual, perceptual analysis also conclude on a positive note on Vegetable oil based inks.
