Abstract

Most of the dynamical systems co-exhibit behaviors typical of continuous-time systems with and discrete-time systems, e.g., in electrical systems with switching actions, currents and voltages change continuously as per the network theorems, and also change discontinuously due to the opening and closing of switches. Such systems come in the class of hybrid systems. Hybrid systems are systems that combine dynamics of continuous nature, modeled using differential equations and discrete dynamics which can be modeled by difference equations. In the last decade, researchers in different areas, have given much importance in modeling and analysis of hybrid systems. In this paper, motivated by modelling of hybrid systems, a detailed modelling method for the modelling of a hybrid system with the help of the mixed-logic dynamical (MLD) and piecewise-affine (PWA) is given. The modelling part is carried out using a new toolbox in MATLAB called HYSDEL. HYSDEL (HYbrid SYstem DEscription Language) is a high-level language for modeling hybrid systems. HYSDEL compiler generates computational MLD or PWA models that can then be used in computations related to system optimization, verification or control synthesis. Using the obtained MLD model, the PWA model is generated. This model is important as the stability analysis of hybrid system is carried out using the PWA model
