Abstract

Viscosity is an inhibit behavior of liquid which is very important to be considered while operating with flow processes. This paper makes an attempt to understand the behavior of flow control process for varying liquid viscosity, and propose a non-contact technique for measurement of viscosity. The objective of the proposed work is to implement an image processing technique which measures the rate at which liquid level varies under dynamic conditions. Images are captured from the camera placed in front of the tank which contains liquid whose viscosity is to be measured. Since the outlet flow rate is kept constant, by analyzing the rate of liquid variation for a given interval, we can compute its viscosity. The process is tested and implemented on real life setup. Analysis of performance shows the set objectives are fulfilled.
