Abstract

Material conservation is a global issue and corrosion is one of the problem faced in all the industries. Corrosion control is of technical, aesthetic and economical interest. Use of inhibitor, is one of the method to control corrosion. Now a days the utility of synthetic organic compounds are restricted because of environmental regulations. Research is now more focused towards the use of naturally available plant products as green corrosion inhibitors. Numerous references are available for the use of plant products to control corrosion. Recently, plant extracts are reported to exhibit good anticorrosion properties. However, these are not being documented systematically. As a part of our studies with eco-friendly green inhibitors for we report herein the phytochemical screening of aqueous extract of carrica papaya seeds (CPSE), isolation of its major active constituent , benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC) and use of the same for corrosion control of aluminum
