Abstract
Environmentally benign biopolymer dextran was used to control the corrosion of 6061 Al alloy in1 M HCl. The electrochemical techniques employed for the studies were potentiodynamic polarization andelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The surface morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopyand elemental mapping was done by the energy dispersive X-ray analysis. Dextran emerged as a potentialgreen corrosion inhibitor for the corrosion control of 6061Al alloy in an acidic medium. It acted as mixedinhibitor, underwent physisorption and followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm
