Abstract

Encryption is required in almost all the fields of human kind. With the increase in requirement for security and privacy aspect in fields such as a banking transaction or defense system additional layer of security is a must. Encryption and Decryption process can be implemented using either symmetric or asymmetric key. Symmetric key requires the same secret-key for encryption of plain text and decryption of cipher text .The user should keep this secret-key securely. The existing systems helps in keeping this secret- key securely using biometric feature fingerprint. The minutia points are extracted and integrated with the symmetric key using Euclidean distance model so as to store the key securely. The existing system has only one layer of security. The proposed system has two layers of security i.e. to retrieve the secret key, user has to provide his/her fingerprint and along with user password. Thus providing an additional layer of security. Even if the fingerprint is lifted by an attacker to retrieve the secret key he must get hold of password which only the user is aware of.
