Abstract

Today the modern passenger aircraft industry looking for high speed travelling and with low fuel consumption by the engine. In the aircraft engine the turbomachinery components like fan, compressors and turbine etc., plays a vital role to achieve the maximum thrust to move the aircraft faster and efficient. The function of the compressor is to compress the incoming air and sending into the combustion chamber with high pressure thereby the combustion of fuel and air mixture burn completely to achieve the required thrust. This review paper mainly focus on the modern turbofan engine axial flow compressor and its developments. To design any aircraft engine axial flow compressor theoretical, experimental and numerical approaches are very much essential for the validation of the final results. To do so it is very much required to know the recent and updated all the above three techniques which are available in the worldwide. Mainly this paper gives the glimpses of the axial flow compressor recent and updated trends in theoretical, experimental and numerical domain techniques using in the aircraft turbomachinery industry. Through the public domain literature each domain of the axial flow compressor blade optimization techniques, new theories which are using for the transonic speed applications and the related experimental systems were studied in detail. Through this paper one can understand the overview of the aircraft axial flow compressor recent trends for the better aeromechanical applications.
