Abstract
Information technology is used by libraries in providing modern information services. It is used as a tool in transforming traditional libraries into modern libraries. Library automation is the basic step any library can think off as per as adoption of information technology is concerned. Electronic resources, the major outcome of the technology are acquired or subscribed by many libraries for the benefit of their users. Provision of remote access to e-resources is a way out to improve the utility. Adoption of Single window search systems like Discovery or Summons is another way to improve the usage. Librarians may also explore some methods to market the contents of their libraries through web pages, information literacy programs, news bulletins etc. Libraries can also bring the visibility to their institutions by building institutional repositories in which they can upload their own faculty publications. So, by adopting information technology libraries can be transformed to serve the users in a better way.
