Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to design an obstacle detection system for the visually impaired people. Variety of sensors and actuators are used to create a smart affordable solution to the road problems faced by the blind people. The feedback mechanism for detection and caution is audio based. Ultrasonic sensors are employed for obstacle detection and servo motors are used for increasing the range of detection. The proposed audio feedback is provided in complete sentences to the user for easier decision making and faster adaptability. The smart walking stick can detect objects in a wide range and thus provides safer surroundings. It is also sensitive to hanging bars and potholes and produces alert before reaching a dangerous distance
