Abstract
In the current era diabetes has become a most common disease among people irrespective of age. Diabetes can even cause loss of life if not treated properly. There are different types of diabetes mainly classified as type1 diabetes and type2 diabetes. In the type1 diabetes insulin is not properlyproduced by pancreas and inthe type2 insulin that is produced is not utilized by the body properly. In this paper we are considering type1 diabetes, where no or little insulin is produced and as a result sugar gets build up in the blood. Here PID controller and model predictive controller is used for controlling blood glucose by properly providing insulin. The tuning method used is Imc-chien and Imc-maclaurin for PID and the dynamic matrix control based model predictive controller is used. The Hovorka model is taken as the patient model for designing the controllers. Meal, exercise and stress are taken as the major disturbance factors and the aim is to control the glucose level between 70-150mg/dl.
