Abstract
Fall detection system to monitor and notify the caretakers when an elder person falls is needed in this age especially when individual monitoring becomes a task. In this paper, we proposed a wearable device that is lightweight, uses battery for power supply, and the energy consumption is low. Our proposed device consists of: 9-axis accelerometer/gyroscope as a sensor, a microcontroller and a communication device. The sensor provides accelerations of elderly body movements. Then, the microcontroller identifies body positions and a fall from three-axis accelerations and a GSM module, that is able to alert the caretaker through communication via the radio transmitter and receiver, about the same and also notify the caretaker/relative by call/SMS. We use parameter threshold in our proposed fall detection system. The developed prototype was evaluated and showed satisfactory performance
