Abstract
Sexual health is the integration of the somatic, emotional, mental and social aspects of sexual being, in ways that are positively enriching and that enhance personality, communication and love (World Health Organisation,1995). Human sexuality is a highly diverse and complex phenomenon, which is subject to multiple influences from biology, culture, and the social and interpersonal environment. Experience of sexuality is unique and influenced by sexual feeling, attitudes, and beliefs. It is processed in personal perspective and which involves private, personal experience and public, social sources. Compare with other Western countries there are many religious and culturally determined strong misconceptions about sex and sexuality still exist in India. This might influence the beliefs, attitude and knowledge. Even though the research studies also very limited in India related with the psychological correlates of sexual dysfunction. The present study was taken up with the aim that understanding the sexual beliefs would explore these aspects in Indian context and throw light in the management of sexual dysfunction in terms of cognitive behavioural perspective.
