Electronic resources have become valuable learning/research tools in academic libraries today. There is a significant increase in the number of full text and bibliographic databases available for information retrieval and also number of online journals and online books accessible through publishers’ and aggregators’ platform. The e-resources facilitate fast information services on one hand and links to variety of sources on the other. The availability of electronic resources opens up new opportunities and scopes for teaching, learning and research activities of the teachers, students and researchers in the higher education stream. The development of Information Technology (IT), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the dissemination of web resources have produced a drastic change on the user behaviors in the usage of e-resources. The library user expects swifter and more convenient usage of information beyond the time and space barriers, which changes the library atmosphere. Over the past many years, library and its users are witnessing enormous changes in the service of library. Today libraries are discussing ‘one-stop-shopping’ search techniques. Libraries are beginning to adopt new discovery tools to effectively and efficiently streamline the search process in the hope of facilitating better search results, as the library collection is increasing day by day. Web scale discovery service is a service, which gives a central searchable interface to search and retrieve, indexing all the contents of the particular library. A single search box can search across the huge collection of library’s subscribed content. More specifically discovery services promising a one-stop-shopping experience to the academic library users the way Google does. This paper highlights the approach towards initiating ‘web-scale discovery service’ to meet the users’ requirement at Health Sciences Library of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, Karnataka. A one-stop-shopping interface, retrieving results from a huge collection of the library is something which students, faculty and even most of the librarians have dreamed off. Implementation of ‘one-stop-searching’ tool could become a new, significant and innovative system to find relevant/required information across all library subscribed resources along with open access resources using the single search box. Instead of searching in individual database/journal/book and links for literature, searching through ‘One-Stop-Searching’ tool will not only save the time of the reader but also will be a permanent search solution to satisfy the user needs.
