A payload fairing gives an aerodynamic shape to the launch vehicle and protects the Satellite and equipment bay from aerodynamic, thermal and acoustic loads during atmospheric flight.The payload fairing with metallic Aluminium sandwich constructions is designed and analysed for static, frequency and buckling. Stresses are well within the allowable limit having minimum margin of 1.16. Free vibration analysis of full fairing (17.74 Hz) and half fairing (2.88 Hz) is carried out using MSC Nastran. Minimum Margin of safety of Auminium sandwich payload fairing is found to be 3.31. The minimum buckling factor is 1.0 without knock down factor. The mass estimated for this design with a minimum face-sheet thickness of 0.8 mm is 1071 kg without TPS. The improved structural performance and good vibro-acoustic behaviour making Aluminium sandwich a potential candidate for Launch vehicle payload fairing.
