Abstract

Multicolor LEDs play an important role in the field of general lighting. These LEDs when mixed ap-propriately, can produce various Correlated color temperatures with different optical spectrums making it suitable for human centric lighting. Apart from focusing only on the quality of light which can improve work efficiency, increase concentration and change the person’s mood, human centric lighting should also take care of health hazards that a person might get when exposed to such light sources for a long time. The wavelength composition of an opti-cal spectrum defines the quality of light and its suitability to be used for various applications. In this paper, we have proposed an optimization technique using Genetic Algorithm for the selection of appropriate LED wavelengths to match the target correlated color temperature (CCT) and luminous flux. The algorithm also controls the quality of spectrum by optimizing the intensity of blue light in the wavelength range of (400-500) nm thereby reducing blue light hazard. The result shows that for a target CCT of 5000K and flux of 500lm six different wavelength LEDs were selected by the algorithm optimizing the proportion of blue in the specified wavelength range. The process of LED modelling for creating the database for algorithm is also presented in this paper
