Abstract

Thecurrentstudyobjectivestoprepareandcharacterizenanoclay-epoxycomposites(NECs)with a varyingweightpercentageofnanoclay.TheNECsarepreparedbymixingnanoclayandepoxyresin usingasonicator. Themixtureismoldformedusingdirectcastingtechnique,tomakespecimensas perASTMstandards. Thespecimensaretreatedwiththreehygrothermalagingconditionsviz.,cold watersoaking, boilingwatersoakingandthermalshock. Thepropertiesofthespecimensare characterizedbasedontensileandflexuraltestsasperASTMstandards.Theresultsrevealedthat hygrothermalagingconditionshaveanadverseeffectonthepropertiesofneatepoxy.Additionof nanoclayincreasedthemechanicalpropertiesanddecreasedtheeffectofwatersoakingconditions. SEMimagesdisclosedthereasonsforthefailureofthespecimens.Conclusionsaredrawnbasedon comparisondoneinobtainedresultsofdryspecimens,andthespecimensthatunderwent hygrothermalagingconditions
