Abstract
In the commercially available mixer grinders, for controlling the speed of the universal motor, triac is used. The triac-based universal motor has lesser efficiency, so the voltage source inverter (VSI)-based brushless DC (BLDC) motor can be used in the application of mixer grinders. In the proposed VSI-based BLDC motor, the current and voltage sensors were eliminated. By adjusting the DC bus voltage of the VSI, the speed of the BLDC motor is controlled. The Triac-based 230V universal motor and the proposed VSI-based 48V BLDC motor was simulated by the Matlab/Simulink. The efficiency and loss of the Triac-based universal motor and the proposed VSI-based BLDC motor for mixer grinder is compared in this paper.
