Abstract

Library and the research support tools acquired by them play an increasingly important role in research. They can save time and add depth to qualitative research work. Research process involves locating and analyzing the information which is well supported by various tools. Therefore, it is necessary to think more critically about the sources and more effectively organize all the different kinds of digital research tools. There are many research support tools that are available to help and to select proper information for research. This paper highlights the awareness and use of various research support tools i.e. bibliographical databases, discovery tool, spelling checker, Journal Citation Report (JCR), anti-plagiarism software, reference management tool, remote access facility, institutional repository etc. Researchers of Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE, Manipal are surveyed. Survey has helped to know the utility of various tools subscribed by central library, MIT. The reason for underutilization of few of the resources/tools is also understood. Recommendations to improve the usage of support tools are given.
