Abstract
Flow measurement is a process of monitoring flow rate of fluids. Flow measurement is one of the critical processes in many industries, it is essential to carry out a detailed analysis of uncertainties associated with flow measurement. This paper attempts to understand the basics of existing flow measurement techniques and orifice flow meter in particular as it is widely used for measurement of flow due to its industry-friendly characteristics. A detailed review is presented in the paper to understand the dynamics of flow measurement, effects caused on the measurement due to variation in a physical dimension of the orifice like the thickness of orifice plate, orifice-hole diameter, number of holes, etc. Discussion is also carried on to understand the influence of parameters like type of fluids, position and type of plate. The parametric effect on the performance of an orifice plate is validated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for a better understanding of its ynamic nature.
