Pictures and other visual aids are particularly effective in explaining surgery to pre-school and school aged children. The purpose of the study was to find the effectiveness of a picture book in reducing the worries of children between five to twelve years of age before going for surgery. A quasi experimental pretest posttest control group design was used in 60 samples. Statistical analysis of data revealed that the picture book related to surgery was effective in reducing the worries of children, about surgery (t value =-2.318 and p value <0.05)
