Fluoroquinolones are commonly used antimicrobial agents. Dysglycemia with this group of drugs has been reported in many studies and case reports. Aim: To compare the effect of various fluoroquinolones in euglycemic rats. Material and methods: The study was conducted in the department of pharmacology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Wistar rats were treated with different fluoroquinolones for five days and blood glucose was estimated on days 0,2,4,6 and 10. The results were analyzed using students‘t’ test and ANOVA. Results: All fluoroquinolones decreased blood glucose levels. A significant decrease in blood glucose levels persisted in oflox cin, norfloxacin and levofloxacin till day 10. Conclusion: Blood glucose monitoring is necessary in patients receiving fluoroquinolones.
