Abstract
Langerhans cell histiocytosis, formerly known as histiocytosis x is an infrequent and enigmatic proliferative disorder that commonly presents in the head and neck region. the etiology has remained unknown, although viruses, bacterial and genetic factors have been implicated. It manifests with a wide clinical spectrum, ranging froma single bone lesion to a multisystemic disease with organ failure. a syndrome consisting of langerhans cell histiocytosis, multiple osteolytic lesions and diabetes insipidus in a six-year old boy is reported and the discussion is focussed on the pathology and on a possible genetic etiology.
