Abstract

The mechanism of anaerobic fermentation of biomass into biogas is ex-plained in terms of autocatalytic reaction. Rate equation is derived for the first order kinetics and verified using the data obtained from a digester holding 20 kg of 10% cowdung slurry at 25ıC. The derived rate equation based on the proposed autocatalytic mechanism is found to explain the experimental rate satisfactorily.
