Abstract

Experimental investigations have been carried out in this research on a submersible pump. The submersible pump is driven by VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) at different speed and the flow is controlled with throttle value. The performance of pump at different speeds with flow adjustment is studied. The flow of pump is calculated by considering the time taken for 24 liters of water collection. The pump efficiency is calculated in each case of flow adjustment. The variation of electrical energy with variation in flow by throttle valve control at different speed is observed. The power factor of the sytem at each case is calculated by considering the voltmeter, ammeter and wattmeter readings. Factors affecting shift in best efficiency point with reduction in speed, variation of the fact that reduced speed of operation results in the saving of power, keeping the operation efficiency as high as possible across variations in the system’s flow demand can reduce the energy and maintenance costs of the pump significantly , and also the advantages of VFD.
