Abstract

The Alcoholic extract of the root of W, somnifera did not protect the animals from chemically or MES induced seizures. The extract neither produced muscle incoordination nor have an antidepressant effect in lower doses. It did not produce an effective sedation also. However, it potentiated the barbiturate induced hypnosis. The extract significantly increased the pentylenetetrazole induced seizure latency. Therefore, probably the administration of the extract for longer duration may havea beneficial effect in petitmal epilepsy
