Abstract

Objective: The alcoholic extract of stem bark of Terminalia arjuna (ALTA) was screened for antioxidant and antimutagenic (anticlastogenic) activity. Methods: Antioxidant property was dacettievrimtyi,n elidp ibdy p1e,r1o,Dxiidpahtyionny l,a2s sPayic arynld h tyodtaral zpyol l(yDpPhPeHn)o laicss acyo,n tseunpte wr aosx iddeet erramdiicnaeld s cbayv Fenogliinn-g Ciocalteau’s reagent. Antimutagenic activity was evaluated using micronucleus test in mice. Results: The ALTA has shown potent antioxidant activity with EC50 of 2.491依0.160, 50.110依0.150 & w71h.0ic0h0 依i0s .2c5o0m ipna rDaPbPleH waistsha ya,s csuorpbeirco xaicdied rwaditihc al scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation assay, respectively. In micronucleus test, EC50 of 2.471依0.140, 40.500依0.390 and 63.000依0.360 in percentage of micronucleus in bAotLhT Apo (l1y0c0h r&o m20a0ti cm egr/yktgh,r opc.oy.t)e ssh owed significant reduction erythrocytes (PCE) and normochromatic (NCE) and also shown significant reduction in P/N ratio. Conclusions: These results suggested that ALTA possess significant antioxidant and antimutagenic activity.
