Abstract
smart sensor is the convergence of the sensing features of a sensor with the intelligence and decision features of a microcontroller or DSP based micro system. Smart sensors provide the features - self identification, smart calibration and compensation, digital sensor data, multi sensing ability, sensor communication for remote monitoring and remote configuration, etc... The main goal of the smart sensor is to make sensor systems easier to use, improve performance and lower overall system cost. Because of their features, smart sensors are used in many applications. This paper discusses, via a specific smart sensor design, the building of a Smart Sensor. Special emphasis is placed on the “Smart “ features and an application i.e a Wireless ECG Smart Sensor.
