Abstract
Advancement in the area of motion estimation has shown that the motion vector distribution is center-biased within a search window. Different motion estimation algorithms have been implemented to achieve computational simplicity and good performance for real-time video applications. This paper discusses different fast block motion estimation techniques like Full Search, Three Step Search, Cross Search and Logarithmic Search. For each of these techniques, their implementation details, their complexity, advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Simulation results are generated by using standard test sequences.
