Abstract
This Paper presents the application of Artificial Intelligence in the design of Lighting systems so as to conserve the energy consumption in both the domestic and industrial applicatons. The combination of Artificial Neural Network and expert System, called Neuro-expert system, is used for obtaining the accurate data required for the design of lighting systems. The Neural Network provides the data like room index, utilization factor for different lamp-luminaire combinations, assessment of illuminance, etc. The Expert System is utilized where mathematical interpretation can not be done and human intuition is required for the computation of fina results. The results obtained will be more accurate than conventional mehtods.Therfore, the customer will be benefited not only by the reduciton of capital and running costs but also by saving the energy thereby helping the electrical utility in proper energy management.
