Abstract

A simple accurate, sensitive, and reproducible spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the analysis of escitalopram oxalate (ESC) in raw material and pharmaceutical dosage form. The effect of different solvents like phosphate buffer pH 3.0 and pH 7.0, water, dilute hydrochloric acid and dilute sodium hydroxide was also investigated on fluorescence intensity of ESC. ESC showed strong native fluorescence in phosphate buffer of pH 7.0 at an excitation wavelength of 238.0 nm and emission of 307.0 nm. The present method was sensitive and specific for the estimation of ESC. The calibration graph was linear in the range from 10.0 - 800.0 ng/ml. The inter run, intraday and inter day precision and accuracy were found to be with in with in limit. Recovery of ESC was found to be with in limit of 98.0-120.0%. The method was robust and can be used for the routine quality control sample analysis. The proposed method was statistically validated and successfully applied for analysis of solid dosage forms satisfactorily.
