Abstract

Microarray experiments involve a sequence of steps and at each stage of the experiment there could be some error which is experimental or measurement error. To draw meaningful inferences it is important to estimate the error or uncertainty associated with microarray measurements. The present study is a systematic review of published articles to identify different methods used for estimating error or uncertainty associated with microarray measurements. Articles published during the period 01-01-1990 to 30-10-2010 in databases Pub Med, Pub Med Central, Science Direct and Scopus were used for this review study. Six articles were selected for the present review according to the selection criteria as well as elimination of duplicate selections. Different studies used different methods for estimating uncertainty which includes theory of error propagation, credibility intervals, bootstrap method, and mean square prediction errorand each these methods have limitations.
