Abstract

Background: Clinical decision making in cancer control and prevention depends on the formulation of diagnosis and treatment based on information and domain knowledge gathered from patient and other sources. To design and development of a clinical decision support system for cervix cancer to assist the oncologist in quality decision making and also assist in cancer control and prevention. Method: An Intensive literature survey was conducted to identify the system in practice and their limitations were note down. A structure interview was conducted among 100 oncologists to understand their expectation from the proposed system. Based on literature search and oncologists feedback the patient care module, search engine, case base and statistics modules are incorporated into the system. The Online Transaction Processing is created using Microsoft SQL server 2005. It is a 3-tier web based application built in. Net framework with client server architecture targeted for browser to access the application. Results: As a result, patient care module will assist in managing complete patient's information, search engine provides option to search and locate contents from knowledge base with minimum time and using case base oncologist can view the statistics and take effective decisions. Conclusions: On implementation, the system is expected to reduce oncologist time in managing patient data and retrieval of domain knowledge as compared to the available system therefore clinician will be able to spend more time for patient care. Consequently, this is expected to improve the physician performance and quality of care of patient with cervical cancer.
