Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MS) has been defined as a link between insulin resistance, hypertension,dyslipidemia, impaired glucose tolerance and other metabolic abnormalities associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. A key factor in pathogenesis of MSis insulin resistance, a phenomenon occurring mainly in obese subjects. Interventions utilizing dietary approach have proven to be successful in reducing some of the associated metabolic abnormalities. Lifestyle disorders are increasingly observe in children , especially adolescents and its imperative that they are identified and managed appropriately by the astute paediatrician.
