Abstract

Prevention is the best strategy to avoid separated instruments and any stress and anxiety associated with it. A safe retrieval or bypassing should be always attempted when an instrument gets separated in the canal. Among the retrieval methods though Masserann technique is time consuming and risky, yet by tactful applicability within its clinical limitations, a separated file was retrieved from a mandibular second molar and assisted in achieving a favorable prognosis without subjecting the tooth to additional traumatic procedure like surgery, sectioning or intentional replantation.
