Abstract

A success story of collective intelligence is the Wikipedia which creates an environment for knowledge creation and sharing. The social media also offers various success stories of collective intelligence such as face book, MySpace, Flicker etc. Google and Yahoo are examples of collective intelligence for information retrieval and search engines. This paper seeks to trace and analyse the growth of collective intelligence on the internet and its importance in the internet society. With the help of case studies the researchers intends to analyse the various applications and its working and utility. With the help of case studies the future trends in collective intelligence will be put forth. The implications of collective intelligence on various aspects such as knowledge –sharing, business development etc will be examined.
