Abstract
The inhibiting effect of N’– benzyl – N’ – phenyl thiourea (BPTU) on the corrosion behavior of 304 SS in 3 N HCl solutions has been studied using potentio-dynamic polarization technique. The results obtained shows that BPTU is an efficient anodic inhibitor with greater than 93% of efficiency in the temperature range studied. The adsorption of this compound on the 304 SS surface was found to obey Temkeins adsorption isotherm, and the inhibition was governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption deduced reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of BPTU on the alloy steel surface.
